"ES RIECHT NACH GAS...HAT MAL JEMAND FEUER?" (2009)

HOMMAGE TO MICHEL MAJERUS

This is the first walkable stagelike installation that I produced. It is an hommage to the work of Michel MAJERUS. I tried to adopt his image sampling method to create the general look of the installation. I "sampled" 22 Majerus artworks to build the Berlin background.

The viewer is asked to, simultaneously, walk through, and examine, an oversized painting, listen to an emotionally appealing text and is challenged by changing surfaces, all with a reduced range of vision and attached to a leash... simulating the superabundance of the media, that we, cowardice consumers of the West, encounter daily.

The headset plays a looped sample of Dirk BERNEMANN's book "Ich hab die Unschuld kotzen seh'n", read by Helmut KRAUSS.

The author came to opening of the exhibition and lectured excerpts from his books.
